Statewide Ballot Initiative for Labeling GMOs
Growcology is hosting a training class today so people can go out and collect signatures for the “Label GMOs statewide ballot initiative”. A Riverside ballot initiative coordinator will be there to answer any questions. Afterwards, there will be a screening of the movie “The Future of Food”. For more information on the Label GMOs campaign, please visit LabelGMOs.org.
GMO = Genetically Modified Organisms. No matter who you are or where you’re from, you have the right to know what’s in your food. Currently, food companies are not required to label foods that contain Gentically Modified Organisms (GMOs). 80% of foods in U.S. grocery stores are made with GMO ingredients. 90% of U.S. consumers want GMO labeling.
The Committee for the Right to Know is a grassroots coalition of consumer, public health, environmental organizations, and food companies in California that is seeking the labeling of genetically engineered foods (GMOs).
On November 9, 2011, the coalition submitted the “California Right to Know Genetically Engineered Food Act” to the State Attorney General for title and summary, prior to circulation as an initiative measure for the November 2012 election.
