[ SOLD for $269,900 ]
Text book cute!  This historical 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom single story cottage is approximately 1400 sq ft and was built in 1942 with Colonial Revival style detailing.  This traditional single family residence has been designated as a “Structure of Merit” by the City of Riverside, and has been carefully maintained over the years.

Some wonderful features include updated plumbing, central air/heat, original (and gorgeous) hardwood floors throughout, eat-in kitchen plus formal dining room, original tile in hallway bathroom, original bedroom closet shoe rack, romantic fireplace, crown moulding, indoor laundry, 30-year commercial-grade kitchen lineoleum, and $1,000 whisper-quiet dishwasher.

The recessed brick porch overlooks a large sycamore tree in the front yard.  The backyard is large enough to accommodate a pool if you wish, but for now please enjoy the garden shed, citrus trees and built-in BBQ.   A detached 2-car garage matches the style of the residence, and is accessed by a long Hollywood driveway.  The garage has been drywalled, and an extra room was added for storage, office, or workout room, etc.  The traditional garage door was replaced with French doors; however, a garage door could be easily re-installed.

You couldn’t want better neighbors, nor could you be in a better location which is walking distance to the Riverside Plaza, movie theatre, supermarkets and banks, and just blocks from RCC (Riverside Community College).

This is a standard sale — this is not a foreclosure or short sale!  Sellers are able and willing to respond to all offers within 24 hours.  No waiting weeks [or months] for a bank’s answer!

Orange and Black = Green?

October 22, 2008

Orange and Black = Green?Halloween is one of the most exciting holidays of the year, and we have a few ideas to improve your ghoulish gatherings and candy collecting.  This year, why not try for an eco-friendly “green” holiday?

  • The most important part of Halloween, at least for the kids and the kid-like adults…. candy!  Try to hand out organic chocolates and hard candy.  Fun non-food alternative treats include nontoxic crayons, coloring books, stickers, or even small change.
  • Set a spooky mood with soy or beeswax candles, not those made from petroleum-based paraffin.
  • Don’t forget a reusable shopping bag or even a pillowcase to carry your trick-or-treating haul!
  • Invest creativity instead of cash in your costume.  Dig into the back of your closet or hit the thrift store to find wacky clothes and accessories.  Instead of throwing away an old outfit or a grandparent’s hat or shirt, stash it in the “Halloween costume” box!  How much fun to look at the old and goofy clothes the following year(s) and use them creatively as costumes!
  • Avoid masks made of vinyl.  Latex ones are safer, unless you’re allergic to the material.
  • Look up recipes for pumpkin pie, soup or curry so your decoration doesn’t go to waste after Halloween.  Not much of a chef?  Compost that jack-o-lantern, at least!

Have a safe holiday, and if you can ‘go green’ at the same time, what an additional ‘treat’ for your future and the environment! Happy Halloween!

Riverside Seniors “Go Green” for Grandchildren

September 28, 2008

Riverside Seniors Go Green for GrandchildrenThe seniors at Riverside’s Mount Rubidoux Manor, 3993 10th Street, are fighting back against global warming for the generations to come.

At 11 a.m. Monday, September 29th, 200 seniors from the retirement home will plant five trees — courtesy of Riverside Public Utilities — as a “gift of green for all the grandchildren of the world.”  The trees are acacia, podocarpus, sweet bay, camphor and red bud.

Mabel Harris, a 100-year-old dedicated gardener living at the Manor, will lead the planting after the ceremony in which Mayor Ronald O. Loveridge and Councilmember Mike Gardner will speak.  The Public Utilities will provide a booth with energy-saving tips as well.

The Residents Council also has a goal of raising $250 for the Nature Conservancy, which is striving to plant a billion trees in the rain forests of Brazil within seven years.  Donations will be accepted at the event.

“The Manor’s policy of going green supports the City’s Green Action Plan”, said Wally Longshore, vice president of the Residents Council.  “We’re mobilizing against global warming and taking the lead in a crusade to accelerate local, state and national governmental and private efforts to go green,” he said.  “The theme is: Seniors giving the gift of green to their grandchildren to save them from inheriting a planet environmental horror should global warming go unchecked.”
