Happy Labor Day

Happy Labor Day!

Were you aware that the first Labor Day parade in United States history was held on September 5, 1882?  Ten thousand workers took unpaid time off to march from City Hall to Union Square in New York City, according to

Even though the event reinforced the idea of a “workingmen’s holiday,” Congress didn’t legalize the holiday until 12 years later.

Labor Day is a day of rest or the last chance for many people to go on trips before the summer ends.  Some people think that Labor Day signifies the “end of summer”, when in reality the “official” end of summer comes with the September Equinox, or autumnal equinox, that’s scheduled to happen September 22, 2013 at 4:44 p.m. EDT.

Regardless of what you choose to do this Labor Day, we wish you a safe, fun, relaxing, and happy day!  Enjoy…

Happy Independence Day!

Two hundred and thirty seven years ago today, the Declaration of Independence was approved by the Continental Congress, setting the 13 colonies on the road to freedom as a sovereign nation.  As always, this most American of holidays will be marked by parades, fireworks and backyard barbecues across the country.

Did you know that there were an estimated 2.5 million people living in the newly independent nation; and this July 4th, there are estimated to be 316.2 million people.  That is a lot of celebrating!!!

Happy 4th of July!

Be safe, keep your animals locked up tight, and be thankful that you live in America!!!
