Candlelight Vigil – Part II

November 11, 2010

Candlelight Vigil Part II

The crowd was a compilation of  family, fellow police officers, friends, neighbors and strangers who gathered to pay homage to slain Police Officer Ryan Bonaminio tonight, this Veterans Day 2010, in front of the Riverside Police Department.  Ryan’s father spoke to the crowd and brought both tears and smiles to the sea of faces.  It just doesn’t seem right that a father must say goodbye to his son in such a way.

We as a community are better for knowing Ryan, maybe not personally, but knowing that he protected us for four years as a Police Officer.  Thank you, Ryan, for also serving two tours of Operation Iraqi Freedom while in the United States Army!

Daylight Saving Time

November 5, 2010

Daylight Saving Time
The saying “spring forward, fall back” reminds people to turn their clocks ahead in the spring, and turn them back again in the fall.

Don’t forget to turn your clocks back one hour at 2 a.m. on Sunday November 7, 2010 (actually, Saturday night before you go to bed)!

This is also a good time (well maybe not at 2 a.m. in the morning) to check the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.  Also check the clocks in your computers, DVD players and microwaves in case they don’t automatically adjust.

Happy Halloween!

October 30, 2010

 Happy Halloween!

Hope everyone has as much fun this Halloween as we did at our raging Halloween party back in 2008 here in the Wood Streets neighborhood!

Our friend Tom built the electric chair above and it was the hit of the party!  He purchased some kind of various colored “e-wires” online and hooked them to a tiny transformer, and then connected that to a homemade 12-volt battery box with switches that made the wires glow.  The wires were then suspended using invisible fishing line.  I used a tripod to take the photos to avoid harsh flashes.  The metal helmet had real electrodes attached to it for appearances sake.  Party guests took turns having their photos taken while sitting on the simple wooden chair.  A good time was had by all!

Our Halloween wish this year is for everyone to have fun, but be safe!
And don’t eat too much candy!
